Yes Second life is free to get in.
Second Life runs on real Dollars... or rather Linden Dollars (the virtual currency in SL)
Ever Real $ is worth approx 275 l$ (Linden Dollar)

You need to register at the Second Life website for an account.
At some point you will be asked to enter your Creditcard or PayPal account information for a premium account.
If you don't want to put in any money (yet) then you can choose to 'skip this step'.
After finishing the rest of the registration process you can launch your game and log on.
Now Click the link above or search ingame for Cannacabanna in the game to pay us a visit.

If you are having trouble getting grasp of the basic movement and video controls in the game then
try watching some of the tutorials on videosites such as Youtube.
